Buying a miter saw is quite an investment, and can be a difficult decision with all the choices out there, so knowing what features you’ll need and which ones you’ll use the most is crucial to making a good choice. I’ve had several miter saws over the years and have come to know what features are important and most useful, that’s why, after careful consideration, my recommended choice is the Hitachi C10FCE2 compound miter saw.

When you’re tackling any DIY electrical project, safety is the key. In order to protect yourself and your electrical system you’ll need one basic tool. A multimeter.

Review: Porter-Cable 343K Random Orbit Sander

This Milwaukee right handed circular saw is my new favorite DIY power tool. I’d been using a 16 lb worm drive saw for years, but now, around the house, I’m enjoying the lighter weight, as well as the ergonomics of this saw. The ladies will love this saw too, as the tilt-lok handle adjust to most applications, making the saw very easy to control.

This saw is for right handed DIY’ers. Which means, with the blade on the left side of the saw you can easily see the blade, guide, cutting line while holding the saw in your right hand. This makes it much easier to cut a straight line, not to mention safer. The tilt-Lok handle can be adjusted back, for vertical cutting, forward for horizontal cutting, or anywhere in between.

Review: Hawkeye 587 5-Gallon Wet/Dry Shop-Vac

The Stanley FatMax sawhorses had caught my eye in the home center several times before, mostly because they folded up so neatly, and they were very light weight, but the price always seemed a bit high.

After a while I finally got fed up with my old wooden horses and decide to splurge and buy a pair of Stanley’s FatMax sawhorses. As it turns out, that was a very wise decision.

These Stanley sawhorses are just the best. They fold up to only 2 inches wide, are very light, and easy to transport.

The individually telescoping legs make setting up on uneven ground a snap. The legs individually adjust about 8 inches each. From 31 inches to a total height of 39 inches.

They are also rated to hold up to 2500 lbs per pair, so they make a great scaffold base.

Plus, they have two 1 1/2 inch wide notches in the top of each horse to accommodate 2x4s to support planks for scaffolding, or your favorite work surface. I use a 24“X 60″ oak cabinet door as a portable work surface (also light weight and easy to store).

The built-in v-grooves are great for working with pipes and lumber, and the rubber feet prevent sliding on most surfaces. One often overlooked feature are the rubber pads built into the top of each sawhorse. These rubber pads help prevent your work surface or project from sliding on the sawhorses. An excellent touch by the designers.

And don’t forget the built in shelf for storing various tools while you work.

Believe me, these will be the last pair of sawhorse you buy, well except if you decide to buy a second pair, as I did.
